Pagan: Beyond the Palisades is the first expansion for Pagan: Fate of Roanoke.

Pagan is an asymmetrical card game for two players in which they take on the roles of witch or witch hunter. The witch tries to perform a ritual of renaturation before she is unmasked and eliminated by the witch hunter.

Nine villagers are under suspicion, and only the witch player knows who the real witch is. In each round, players place their action pieces on active villagers to draw cards, play cards, gain influence, and manage the gloom. In addition, the witch can brew powerful potions, upgrade her familiar, and cast spells and enchantments, while the witch hunter recruits allies, claims strategic locations, and relentlessly investigates the villagers.

Beyond the Palisades introduces two new mechanics to Pagan: Darkness and Purification. Darkness is a new resource that benefits the Witch Player as long as it is in play. It symbolizes the symbiotic relationship of the witch with the land. Darkness enters the battlefield by playing Darkness cards and can be reduced or increased over the course of the game. Some cards may even exceed the natural limits of darkness on the cards. With enough effort and concentration, it is possible to clear the darkness that invades the village. The purification of a map is done by removing every last remnant of gloom. Once a card is cleansed, it is discarded and its purification effect takes effect.
